Master of Puppets is the third studio album by the American heavy metal band Metallica, released on March 3, 1986. A landmark of the thrash metal genre, it is widely considered one of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time.

Master of Puppets is the last album to feature bassist Cliff Burton, who died in a tour bus accident while the band was on tour promoting the album in September 1986.

The album reached #29 on the Billboard 200 without a single or music video, establishing Metallica's mainstream presence.
