Chaos and Creation in the Backyard is the 13th solo studio album by Paul McCartney, released in September 2005. It is widely regarded as a "return to form" and a late-career highlight, noted for its intimate, introspective sound and experimental production.
The album was produced by Nigel Godrich, known for his work with Radiohead and Beck, at the suggestion of Sir George Martin. Godrich famously challenged McCartney during the sessions, pushing him away from his usual recording habits.
Similar to his 1970 debut McCartney and 1980’s McCartney II, McCartney played nearly all the instruments on this record.
The cover features a black-and-white photograph of a young Paul strumming a guitar in his family's backyard in Liverpool, taken by his brother Mike McCartney.
It received three Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year, and features the Grammy-winning single "Jenny Wren".
