Down On The Upside
Down on the Upside is the fifth studio album by the American rock band Soundgarden, released on May 21, 1996. Self-produced by the band, it features a more experimental, less heavy sound than their previous albums. The album was the last Soundgarden studio release for 16 years, as the band broke up in 1997 following the supporting tour.
Down on the Upside debuted at number two on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart and has sold 1.6 million copies in the United States.
Musical shift: The album marked a stylistic shift, with the band moving away from alternative metal towards a more diverse and experimental sound with varied instrumentation.
