Sports is the landmark third studio album by Huey Lewis and the News, released on September 15, 1983. It transformed the band into global superstars, reaching number one on the Billboard 200 in June 1984 and remaining on the charts for 160 weeks.
Commercial Powerhouse: The album was the second best-selling album of 1984, trailing only Michael Jackson's Thriller.
It produced four Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100:
"Heart and Soul" (reached #8)
"I Want a New Drug" (reached #6)
"The Heart of Rock & Roll" (reached #6)
"If This Is It" (reached #6)
It is certified 7× Platinum by the RIAA for over 7 million copies sold in the U.S..
The album gained lasting notoriety through its "skewering" and detailed critique by the character Patrick Bateman in the book and film American Psycho.
