David McCallum
McCallum (Produced By David Axelrod)
McCallum is the fourth and final studio album by Scottish actor and musician David McCallum, released in 1968 through Capitol Records.
The album is a fusion of jazz, pop, and easy listening, featuring McCallum's instrumental arrangements of popular hits from the late 1960s. Like his previous musical works, it was produced and arranged in collaboration with the legendary David Axelrod.
The tracks often feature a "space-age" or psychedelic vibe, showcasing McCallum’s skills on the flute and keyboards.
Notable Tracks:
"98.6": A cover of the Keith hit, featuring McCallum's playful flute work.
"Mellow Yellow": A psychedelic-tinged cover of the Donovan classic.
"Strawberry Fields Forever": An instrumental interpretation of the Beatles song.
"B.B.": A funky tribute to blues icon B.B. King.
While David McCallum is primarily remembered for his iconic acting roles—such as Illya Kuryakin in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard on NCIS—his music career has had a lasting impact on modern pop culture. Most notably, his track "The Edge" (from his earlier album Music: A Bit More of Me) provided the signature sampling for Dr. Dre's "The Next Episode".
