Amnesiac
XL Recordings (XLLP783B)
Release date: Nov 11, 2016, USA, Canada & Europe
Amnesiac is the fifth studio album by the English rock band Radiohead, released on June 4, 2001. Recorded during the same sessions as its predecessor, Kid A, it explores a similarly experimental sonic palette of jazz, electronic music, and 20th-century classical influences.
Though recorded simultaneously, the band maintains that Amnesiac is a standalone work, not a collection of "leftovers". Thom Yorke described the difference by saying Kid A is like "looking at a fire from afar," while Amnesiac is "what it feels like to be standing in the fire".
The album is noted for its "wayward" and "unconventional" song structures. It features the Humphrey Lyttelton Band on the New Orleans jazz-inspired closer, "Life in a Glasshouse".
It debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and number two on the US Billboard 200.
Awards: The album's special edition won the Grammy Award for Best Recording Package in 2002.
