Songs I Heard
Songs I Heard is a 2001 album by Harry Connick, Jr., featuring his big-band arrangements of songs from classic children's films he watched growing up. The album won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.
This 16-track album features jazz-influenced, big-band interpretations of classic children's movie songs, including tracks from Mary Poppins, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, and The Wizard of Oz.
Connick arranged and conducted the album, often infusing the songs with a New Orleans-style brass band feel. Critics highlighted the blend of nostalgia with a mature, artistic approach. The album also features a guest appearance by saxophonist Branford Marsalis on "Ding-Dong! The Witch is Dead".
