The Colour and the Shape, the second studio album by the Foo Fighters, was released on May 20, 1997, through Roswell and Capitol Records. It marked the first time the band recorded with a full lineup, as their debut album was solely recorded by Dave Grohl. Produced by Gil Norton, the album is regarded as a significant release of the post-grunge era and one of the band's most successful. Grohl's lyrics for the album primarily focus on the end of his first marriage.
