Green Day
Insomniac
Insomniac is the fourth studio album by the American rock band Green Day, released on October 10, 1995, through Reprise Records. The album followed the band's multi-platinum breakthrough, Dookie, and is notable for its darker, heavier sound and more pessimistic lyrics.
The album was recorded at Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco, with producer Rob Cavallo. The band focused on high-energy takes during the sessions.
The lyrics touch on themes of anxiety, alienation, and drug use, a shift in tone from the more lighthearted themes of Dookie.
Insomniac reflects the band's struggle with their newfound mainstream success following Dookie. The band members felt homesick and disoriented from constant touring and the pressures of being in the spotlight.
