No. 4 (stylized as № 4) is the fourth studio album by the American rock band Stone Temple Pilots, released on October 26, 1999, through Atlantic Records. The album represented a return to the band's hard rock and grunge roots after the more experimental Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop.
No. 4 is described as a "back-to-basics" effort blending the heavy sound of their early work with pop and glam influences. Despite limited promotion due to singer Scott Weiland’s incarceration, the album was certified Platinum.
Critics note a return to form with elements of grunge, alternative metal, and neo-psychedelic pop.
Key Singles: "Sour Girl" (No. 78 on Billboard Hot 100) and the Grammy-nominated "Down".
