Pink Floyd
Animals
Animals is Pink Floyd's tenth studio album, released in January 1977. It is a concept album that uses animal metaphors to criticize the social and political landscape of 1970s Britain.
Loosely inspired by George Orwell's Animal Farm, the album divides society into three animal groups. "Dogs" represent businessmen and enforcers of capitalism. "Pigs" symbolize the corrupt political elite. "Sheep" represent the masses who eventually rebel against the "dogs". While Orwell focused on Stalinism, Animals critiques capitalism, alienation, and social injustice. The lyrics are notable for their cynical tone.
