The Early Years is a two-volume compilation album series featuring demo recordings by Tom Waits from 1971, made before the release of his debut album, Closing Time. These recordings showcase a young Waits in a formative, unpolished stage of his artistry.

The Early Years, Vol. 1 was released on July 16, 1991. It contains 13 tracks, some of which were re-recorded for later albums, while others are unique to this compilation
