David Bowie famously narrated a recording of Sergei Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf in 1978. The album, titled David Bowie Narrates Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, features music performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Eugene Ormandy.

Bowie undertook the project as a gift for his then seven-year-old son, Duncan Jones. The record label had initially sought other well-known actors like Alec Guinness and Peter Ustinov for the role.
