The 1979 debut album One Way Featuring Al Hudson (released on MCA Records) is generally regarded by critics and fans as a high-quality blend of late-'70s disco, soul, and early-'80s funk grit. It marked a transition for the group (formerly Al Hudson & the Soul Partners) to a more polished, dance-oriented sound, featuring heavy contributions from vocalist Alicia Myers and bassist Kevin McCord.
