Why Do Birds Sing? is the fifth studio album by the American folk-punk band Violent Femmes, released on April 30, 1991. It is notable as the last album to feature the band's original lineup with drummer Victor DeLorenzo.

The album is categorized as alternative rock, folk rock, and folk punk. It includes the hit single "American Music," which reached number 2 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart, and a cover of Culture Club's "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?".
