Released on March 24, 1986, Please is the debut studio album by the English synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys. The album features the worldwide number-one hit "West End Girls" and established the duo's signature blend of dance-pop, disco, and social commentary.
According to the duo, the title Please was chosen so that customers could walk into a record store and ask, "Can I have the Pet Shop Boys album, please?".
Synth-pop, dance-pop, and disco.
Primarily produced by Stephen Hague, with additional production by J.J. Jeczalik, Blue Weaver, and Ron Dean Miller on specific tracks.
The album reached #3 in the UK and #7 on the US Billboard 200, where it was certified platinum. It has sold over three million copies worldwide to date.
Designed by Mark Farrow, the original cover is a minimalist white sleeve featuring a tiny photograph of the duo taken by Eric Watson.
