Release date: Jan 1, 1983, Canada
Released on November 21, 1983, Seven and the Ragged Tiger is the third studio album by Duran Duran and their first to reach #1 on the UK charts.
The "Seven" refers to the five band members and their two managers (Paul and Michael Berrow), while the "Ragged Tiger" represents their ambitious pursuit of success.
It featured three major singles: "Union of the Snake," "New Moon on Monday," and "The Reflex," which became their first US #1 hit after being remixed by Nile Rodgers.
To avoid high UK taxes, the band recorded in various exotic locations, including a château in France, George Martin’s AIR Studios in Montserrat, and Sydney, Australia.
Departing from the guitar-heavy sound of Rio, this album embraced more complex synth-pop textures, heavily utilizing the Fairlight CMI digital sampler.
